Description

This is my dragonfly.

I designed it for the MakerWorld Flying Objects Design Contest.

Make sure to watch the short GIF in the modelpictures.

After print, just rotate the head and tail into place, push the wings into the inner joints, and put the model on the stand.

Enjoy!

Update:

I added the “Dragonfly loose joints” profile (red Dragonfly picture).

Use this profile, if your head and tail joints are too tight!

I designed it with more space between the joints.

Have fun!

This is really a cool design! I discovered PLA silks don't work very well when it comes to the body for the head and tail. They will fuse together printing straight from cloud. So I used the wings to create my own cool look. 👍

Very nice👍. Today I will upload a Bambu Basic PLA profile. I am also working on a model with more space between the head and tail joints for those who have problems with the silk prints. I will release the silk model tomorrow.

The main profil is impossible. The two pivots are stuck ! Even with a tool, they broke ! I needed glue. That's a pity because the model is very good.

Hi EPO-3D. Try the "loose joints" profile. On your picture you can see many layer problems like blobs. That often indicates that the filament is not dry enough. I printet the dragonfly with 4 different filaments and had no problem at all. If you want to just try a fresh filament or the new profile and everthing should work fine.

@Blubdiwub Thank you for taking the time to respond! The humidity levels of my AMS are good. However, is it possible that the filament might still not be dry enough? I've had very good results with this filament on other models. Perhaps using the new profile first? Anyway, thank you for the model, the wings are superb, and the wing attachment system is very clever!"

You're welcome. I hope the profile or new filament can fix your problem and you can enjoy the model! There ar so many possible causes for printproblems, every model and filament is different. I adjust my print-settings for every filament new, with several tests, so that the dimensions are correct. I´m glad you like the model anyway.

Nice print that was fast and easy to make. A bit hard to loosen the head and tail ,but they did work. The wings are a bit loose and keep falling down. Came off easily from the Bambu textured PEI plate.

Hi elfring👋 nice to see another picture. The wings are a bit loose because you didnt push the wings into the inner joints. watch the short Animation (galery)🙂. Enjoy!

Printed in Blue/Green bicolor silk PLA with the default setting of the print. +The wings are absolutely gorgeous + The joints of the wings work instantly as intended - Moving the tail into position was impossible, it snapped right off 2mm from the joint. Using tools and force, the joint still does not move. Using more force would have broken the body. - Moving the head was impossible without tools to separate the head-part from the bodypart. Probably the same issue as with the tail. My P1S is straight from the box and i did not fiddle with any fine tuning. For the current print settings, the tail and the head joints are too tight to be moved.

Thank you for your feedback.👍 I will upload alternative files with several thigt/loose tolerances as soon as possible. I did many testprints and everything worked fine. Maybe the temperature setting ist too high so the joints melt together.
