Description

I have recently obtained some ELEGOO cardboard spools, and in order to use them in the AMS, an adapter was required. So I expand my CBAS series to include them.

The spool needs around 159 grams of filament with 15% infill, making it not lightweight but rather sturdy and smooth-running. So far it has always fit perfectly into the spools core. The Silica Compartment Lids add approximately another ~16 grams.

Updates

24/05/09 Lite update

Added a version that should be compatible with the AMS lite - i don't have an AMS lite and can't confirm the fit - it gains ~5 grams on the standard variant. Old SCL is not compatible - new SCL AMSL available. LSM compatibility continues. The spool can't be put on the AMS lite if the SCL is screwed in!

23/01/02 Silica compartment lid update

Added the Silica Compartment Lid (SCL) - with this cover, the spools core can be sealed, allowing it to be filled with silica bags or loose beads. Loose beads should be bigger than 1.5mm, as smaller beads may pass through the air slots. For easier tightening and loosening of the SCL, you can find the TwistAssist listed under accessories below. The SCL is only compatible with prints printed from files tagged with the SCL label.

Changed the default print profile to the SCL version. The SCL variant remains compatible with older versions. It gains approximately ~3 grams in weight.

23/12/27 Label space module update

The standard print profile has been changed to the label space module version. As a result, the spool becomes approximately 14 grams heavier but remains fully compatible with the original version.

Profiles for the label space modules have been added, labeled with the most common filaments as well as an unlabeled variant - unlabeled also available as .step file.

Assembly

To assemble, first remove a cardboard side of the ELEGOO spool and replace it with a printed half, some of the glue residue may need to be removed. Hold the spool and turn it over, then remove the other side, now screw the halves together until they are tight.

The label space module can be inserted into both parts of the spool, preferably when the spool is not yet loaded, and it may require some effort depending on your printer.

The SCL can be easily screwed into the thread of one of the spool cores.

It's best to wrap the filament with painter's tape beforehand to prevent it from unwinding on its own.

Accessories

This spool is part of the CBAS series and can make use of these accessories.

For those who prefer not to use the holes in the spool to secure the filament, here is the appropriate filament clip:

Printed perfectly. I still have to clean off the glue residue and transfer a roll on to it.

Fantastic spools to replace the awful cardboard. I’ve used the Elegoo and Esun spools so far and both are spot on. even the covers for desiccant are amazing. the labels are hard to put on, but they’re solid. these use a tad more filament than I’d like, but they’ll last forever and they spin really nice in the AMS.

Nice Print - the green looks great! Yeah - i thought about a lighter version but i liked the feel of it - so a bit more filament was the price to pay.

Chef’s kiss! Works perfectly, feels nice and sturdy and fits the Rapid PLA+. I tried the spool rims before and it didn’t work in the AMS. These work perfectly and reuseable. It was super easy ripping out the cardboard and putting these in. Now I can buy affordable PLA and not have to worry about the cardboard dust!

This saved my life (almost!) i got a cardboard spool and the side detached, so i used this spool to replace the card board one. it worked almost perfect on the AMS Lite. I want to request a small change if its feasible, i need the inner circle that touches the AMS Lite holder to be a bit smaller to get a better grip from AMS LITE Spool holder. 5,5mm would do the job. Fun fact, the spool actually fell off the AMS lite, i'm using the top mount solution.. and depending on the print there is some insane back and fourth shaking.

@tessomc hey - thank you for your feedback! That shouldn't be that big of a deal to do. I will see to get it up this weekend

@tessomc Hey AMS Lite version is available. Since I don't have an AMS Lite, I wasn't able to test the fit. If you print it out, I would appreciate any feedback on this topic!
