I love the quality options on Makerworld, but I only need to do the occasional spool so if it's a little dodge that's ok.
Will it make nice tightly wound even spools? Ahh, no.
Will it break? Maybe.
Is it a neat elegant solution? Not really, no.
Is it a quick print and pulls apart once you are done for storage? YES.
Do you need any tools or hardware? No, just the drill to run it. (No crank handle, you would be loopy to try it without gears anyway).
There are options included for a version with a stand, or a version that hangs off a Bunnings style adjustable shelf with keyholes.
This is the intended option, as I have loads of these shelves so it was convenient. One end goes on the hanger, the other on the drill. Simple. I got a bit carried away in Fusion and made a stand version as well.
The stand version requires the square end of the thread to be glued the the hub that goes into the left side of the frame. There is a threaded knob that attaches the other side.
Simple Version (Plate 1): 75g, 2hrs32min
Stand version (Plate 2): 141g, 4hrs15min
Note: I found if I ran my Makita drill on speed 2 it can overheat the keyhole pin. Setting 1 was fine and still quite fast. Perhaps print in PETG if you have that as an option.
It's a work in progress, but if you need a simple solution give it a whirl! Let me know if you think of any improvements.
Happy Printing!
