Description

So I created this cap for the airtag keychain holder at https://www.printables.com/model/65525-airtag-strong-keyring-keychain-holder (and https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4845981). The cap is glued to the airtag, so the airtag can still be pushed out to change the battery.

For completeness sake I have included the original design. I have not included the logos seen in the pictures to avoid copyright infringements, but they can be easily found on the web.

Tip: svg files can be directly imported in a modern slicer like OrcaSlicer and used as a modifier.

Customizing

If you have a multi-material printer, you can use the modifier feature in a modern slicer like OrcaSlicer to add colored logos or shapes. Otherwise you can use the negative part feature for cutouts to show the white color of the airtag or even other colors by using stickers.

There are slicer tutorials on YouTube on how to use modifiers and negative parts.

Printing

I use ABS for 95% of my prints, but PLA will do fine too. For the best result, use the smallest layer height your printer supports. Mine was 0.08mm. I used a 0.4 nozzle.

Print it on a textured bed for the nicest finish.

Assembling

Clean the white side of the airtag and sand the center with 1000 or 2000 paper. Insert the airtag with the shiny part down. Then use crazy glue to glue the inside of the cap to the center of the airtag. Press it firmly for 30 seconds.

Make sure you don't use too much glue as you don't want to glue the cap to the airtag holder. That will make the next battery change… difficult.

Warning: note that glue can creep through the surface and can glue your fingers too. I've been there.
