Description

UPDATE: Per requests in the comments, I've added a way to add weight to the Hex Paper Towel holder if you find it necessary. You do NOT need to reprint the paper towel holder itself. Simply print the “Hex Paper Towel Holder Plug” profile, fill the hollow portion of the paper towel base with sand/dirt/or weighted material of your choice and press fit the plug into the hollow hole in the base(I was able to add 150 grams of sand to mine). Make sure you leave enough room to push the plug down far enough to sit flat. I've included a small grip on the plug for ease of guidance, as well as removal with pliers if you ever feel the need. From my testing it does not need glue, but if you want it 100% permanent, please add a dab to the sides of the plug before inserting. Pictured below is the plug assembly,

  • This is a beautiful, functional, low filament using paper towel holder I designed for my own home. Using hexagons I've made this paper towel holder both strong and light using only 135 grams of filament and NO supports!

  • Specifically sized to be printable on the A1 Mini!

  • Keep in mind this model is again, light, so you may need to hold it while removing a paper towel. However, I found with even my own metal holder at home I still had to do that 90% of the time, so the filament savings seemed like a worthy trade off.

  • This paper towel holder should fit most small to large rolls (though I've only tested a few I have access to)

  • I've included both Default Speeds and Normal profiles as my testing with PLA at Default Speed settings was great, but if you want to print in PETG it can have flow issues, so just make sure your flow rates are tuned if using the fast profile. I strongly urge you to use the normal profile if you are unsure of your flow rates. I do not have a tuned profile for A1 mini, but I've included a fast profile that should work fine as long as your flow rates are tuned. Please let me know if you have any issues with it (I printed both the fast and normal profiles a total of 5 times each, but your experience matters!) and feel free to upload your own A1 profiles!

  • If you enjoy this model please toss it a like!

Wonderful print for the kitchen. printed on the p1s using the designer’s normal profile. filled the tube with pennies for weight and worked wonderfully with the plug. printed in sunlu’s black pla.

That looks great! Pennies is also a really good idea. Well done!

Replying to @3DPODesigns :
thanks. a great design plus a sound quality machine makes for a winning combination. :) and yeah I had no sand laying around so I figured I had enough loose change to weigh it down and I’ve been pleased with the result so far. thanks again for designing this, my wife was pleasantly surprised to see it on our kitchen island when she got home last night.

That's definitely your filament/flow rates causing that issue. I tested the model 10 times without that result. The only thing I would say is if its PETG, you have to make sure your settings are dialed in. PETG already doesn't like fast prints where the nozzle jumps around a lot like it does for this model, so if you're unsure of your settings I'd use PLA.

It also looks like you might've had adhesion issues as the toward the top it looks like it was wobbling. That could also just be very poorly calibrated filament settings on your end.

You can see where I circled your printer must've missed a step, or possibly under extruded. After taking a closer look everything else looks good, short of the stringing which is most likely just moist filament. I suggest giving it another go with dried filament, it looks like it printed well short of whatever happened there. Sorry you had that issue.

I really like the design! Unfortunately I had some quality issues during printing, especially along the right edge. Generally my prints turn out fine, though I've been wary of this particular filament (Creality EN-PLA+) before. The nozzle would start hitting/bending the print (maybe my flow rate is off?) while working on the right side, thus depositing material in slightly wrong location, and that would only get worse on subsequent layers resulting in a deformed slightly thinner but taller column. Once I noticed this, I babysat the print till the end, removing tiny bits of excess / wrongly deposited material every time the nozzle started hitting the print. Luckily it didn't hit the part hard enough to detach it from the plate. Printed using the Normal Profile.

Yeah it can be a bit sensitive to flow rate and retraction because of how much it jumps. Petg especially. Pretty much any pla I used worked great fast or slow.
