Description

If you want to support my work, you can buy me a coffee here :)

https://www.buymeacoffee.com/craycray

When I needed to clear a jam it felt like unneccesary work to remove screws, so I added a magnetic mount instead for easy removal. Everythign else is the same, so all other remixes/attachments/extensions works as well.

It requires 4 pieces of 3x6mm magnets, I used these:

https://www.amazon.se/dp/B07D33PG7Y

I've added a complete set and separate profiles for the mount only, one with the holes added and another one if you want to add holes yourself for other size magnets.

Update 2024-01-06:

Added a custom adapter with fixed angle and wider opening, if you have problem with jams or finding the right angle, use this one instead.

This mount replaces the “mount + first” model, so it's an all-in-one which fits the original extension pieces.

Profile name: Magnetic mount/first chute (Custom adapter) - 0.2mm layer, 2 walls, 10% infill

Update 2024-01-07:

Added print profiles for both the standalone mount and the all-in-one custom adapter, with support for captive magnets.

Update 2024-01-19:

Made a version 2 with a cleaner look and adjusted the angle a bit. Also removed the original “first chute” since it's a bit tricker to get the angles right. Still works with the same extensions. Far from perfect, but i'm learning :)

Nice print! Only thing is I will need to trim all 4 holes to be able to insert the magnets.

Version 2 - Magnetic mount(captive magnets), first chute
Worked great, I revised the v2 model with (6) 3x8 magnets, compression fit and glued in. Thanks for taking the time!

Hi, is it possible for you to redesign this model to hold captive magnets? So that way you can pause and add the magnets instead of glueing them in place.

Hi! Added two new profiles with captive magnets, both for the standalone mount and the mount/chute all-in-one. Let me know if it works or if I need to adjust the tolerances.

So i just sliced the mount that's separate and it only has three holes for the magnets.

does it fit with the AMS hub?

Sorry but I don’t have an ams hub, measure it from the stl, and if it doesn’t fit you could measure the distance from the chute I could adjust and upload another version.

it’s only a few mm away unfortunately

I guess the top part is just unneccesary, I removed that and moved the top holes down a bit. Can you check version 3 and report back? :)

The redesigned SQUARE mouth mount is miles better than the original round mouth. The orig mount would definitely cause jams in the transition from the square X1 chute to the round mount since there is inherent blockage in the drop path. The square mount matches the printer chute perfectly and the filament waste drops cleanly out. Kudos mate! My one suggestion to enhance the square mount is to re-work the transition from the mount to the first line-loc segment to be a little smoother and more flared. Currently it seems to be a line-log segment fused to the mount but that means an unnecessary restriction exists where there could just be the mount flaring outward from its chute entry to the lower portion of the line loc socket. It's not critical but i think it would really be the chef's kiss on this design. Also, dump the old round mount + segment profile and replace with a square + segments instead. I think many people will print that one by default being the first and seemingly complete set and not enjoy the better design.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback, this really was my first venture in 3D modeling, so I just mashed things together basically. I’ve made a new revision, did some changes yesterday and currently running through the updated print files. I’ll update as soon as testing is done, hopefully today/tomorrow. I’ll update and remove the other profiles as well like you suggested :)

Hi! New profiles passed my tests for both captive and magnet holes, it's the "Version 2-" prefix profiles. Adjusted the angle a bit as well, think it turned out better.

A simple, clear and great idea that takes the concept much further. Thank you for this.
