Description

miniman

tolerance test toy

miniman is a figurine toy that I designed that ended up being a fantastic test to see how well your printer can work with print-in-place hinges and moving parts. Each part has a 0.2mm clearance in which the body parts should not fuse together. If your printer and material is tuned well, your parts will print with minimal to no fusing and the hinges and articulation points can all move freely without falling apart.

Three profiles are provided, each with varying difficulty to print correctly:

  • Easy: 120% scale, the parts are likely to not fuse, even without perfect tuning
  • Medium: 110% scale, better material tuning is needed, and good adhesion is important
  • Hard: 100% scale, very very good tuning needed, and adhesion can be tough!

Some notes I've found while testing:

  • PLA Matte is best at not fusing, PLA Basic was more likely to fuse
  • The fists are the most difficult part, if the printer isn't tuned well the fists can break when trying to turn them
  • This is all done with 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm nozzles will do much better
  • Bambu Lab, Sunlu, and Polymaker filament were used to test this without issues!

Good luck printing!

Wow! Miniman's joint structure looks very similar to the Worker Robot I created :) https://makerworld.com/en/models/117513#profileId-128541 (Released 2024-01-01 15:43)

Ah yeah yours is great! I started with something like this figure on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2887306, and later saw your model and implemented your double joints for elbows/knees as it’s much better than single joints

very cool robot @3DP RNS, i guess a human figure can only have a couple ways to do the joints

must admit when i saw the first few layers print i thought to myself this is tiny and never going to work, well it works perfect. every joint was basically free moving right off the build plate. such a cool little quick test print.

I would say this is a very good torture test print, so it definitely works for what it's intended, and you could tune it and everything to be perfect. I understand the implications of the profile and why it's under hard but for my prints they appeared to be easily breakable and not very posable. Ones hand broke and the other got all messy on the back for some reason. Other than that it's a good print.

Hello, the messy back means bed adhesion was having issues and the broken hand means the parts fused together and additional tuning of the filament is needed

Sorry about that, unfortunately that likely means the bed isn’t cleaned well enough. If you cleaned with alcohol that won’t work, it just dissolves and redistributes the grime. Hot water and soap is the best way to clean a bed

For some reason every time I print one of these figures or any other print in place figure it never works out until I print it around 10 times. I am going to continue try to get this figure printed.
